Definition: screaming cellphone

An earlier security service from Synchronica plc that made a smartphone continually emit the sound of a human scream even if it was in vibrate mode. Launched in 2006, as soon as subscribers realized their device was lost or stolen, they contacted Synchronica to activate the scream. If the battery was removed, the device started screaming as soon as it was replaced. The phone could also be commanded to upload sensitive data to Synchronica servers and erase all traces. See antitheft.
